Communication for Engineers

Communication is a vital skill in everyones daily life, and it is also really important in engineers life, as it was also picked as one of the missing basics for engineers. Communication is not only an activity of everyday life but it is also a way of opening doors, of making yourself more understandable, on expressing your ideas clearly, but one of the most important, and also learned in Eng 198, it improves our own network. When I mean by opening doors, I refer to having more opportunities, not only work opportunities, but education opportunities and opportunities for life. Knowing how to communicate, can give a better impression to your maybe future boss, having good communication skills can give you a job, between much more things. By having a good communication skill you can also meet knew people, get to have really good friends, or once again you can meet people that can give you a future work opportunity, all this people can also be part of a future networking group. Having a good communication skill is also an opportunity for making you understand, is a way that you can express your ideas in a clear way, in conclusion is way to opening to society and being part to the world.

Communication is also part of the globalization process, and what involves in globalization? Networking, a part of communication, exchange of ideas and cultures, another part of communication (a branch of if that involve knowing languages, knowing other cultures, and all this can be possible by communication, not only by a verbal form of it, but also other forms have arise, like sign language or also communication for blind people. Problems in people haven't been an obstacle to communication, because this is a skill that rules everyones life), technology, which is a big piece of engineers, and also the ability to make the big world a concentrated spot in finding all things easier with the help of communication.

  1. Hey Jonathan!!!!

This is my 1st time here! *doodle on the wall* xDDDD

hmm 1st question, why is your blog in spanish? i mean, everything else besides the post is in spanish. LOL

I agree that it is vital to have good communication skills! Let me give you my story. I was in the plane and i wanted to drink coke, but the air stewardess heard me saying 'coffee' I have no idea why she heard that, but for the next few hours the only drinks that i got was... you guessed it! coffee!

Morale of the story: Don't ask for coke. They will understand if you say sprite. LOL

So, good communication skills is vital in life. and as well as in engineering. (:

remember Mars Climate Orbiter? It crashed because of the face that some scientists used SI units while the others use the US customary units. Therefore, communication is very very very very very important! what engineers and scientists do have a large impact on our society!

So, i totally agree with you that communication is important!

  2. I agree on the importance of communication. After all, any ideas is only as great as how one can put it across. No one will know what you are thinking of unless you can communicate it effectively to them. I mean, a joke ain't funny unless your audience understands what you are saying!

In engineering today, we hear of how teamwork is vital for any project to succeed. For example, in the design and manufacture of a plane, several companies work on different parts of the aircraft, and within these companies are divisions of people working on different aspects of those part...... So for the final product to be produced, the engineers have to be able to communicate effectively to his partners about his work so that they can work to integrate the systems together. Without effectively communication, we would have parts that don't fit, repetition of work etc, spelling disaster for the project.

Aside from professional uses, a good grasp of communication would allow one to expand his social circle, make more friends, and hence learn more from things around him. So, communication is actually a pretty fun thing to do, once we learn how to do it well!
